The museum is expected to open Veteran's Day 2014.
The National Museum of Americans in Wartime (NMAW) is a not-for-profit cultural and educational institution dedicated to honoring those who served in all branches of the military. NMAW has been working with Prince William County to identify an appropriate site suitable for the construction of a museum. NMAW is planning to construct a museum on a 66-acre property at the intersection of Dale Boulevard and I-95. As proposed, the Museum will feature an orientation facility, maintenance hangars, and an outdoor exhibit known as "Landscapes of War", which will represent the major conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries - World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, as well as the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Each landscape will consist of an interpretive center with relevant artifacts as well as a replica of a warfront scene as trenches, M.A.S.H. unit, or a bombed-out European village. NMAW's large collection of armored vehicles, including numerous operational tanks, will be showcased through static displays, active demonstrations, and re-enactments.
