Get to Know WEG…
Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) is a great company to work with and an even better company to work for. There are always exciting projects going on, fun social activities to get employees involved and new adventures on the horizon. Whether you’re looking at WEG as a potential partner or employer, we hope to give you some further insight as to why we consider WEG to be one of the best companies around.
A History:
Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) was born in a garage in the Spring of 1990 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Two young entrepreneurs (current Principals Ron Boyd and Mike Kelly) brought their technical skills together to form a small environmental consulting firm. The initial focus for the company was on Wetlands, Water Resources, and Regulatory Permitting. After many years of expanding services and acquiring new expertise, WEG has still maintained that focus. Although their business began with service mainly to private sector clients, WEG now has a 70/30 percent mix of private/public clients. “It still amazes me to think about where we started from” commented Ron Boyd, “it seems like just yesterday…”
WEG has since grown from two partners to a present staff of over 115 full-time professionals and support staff. WEG has built a qualified staff of professional engineers, planners, wetland ecologists, and regulatory specialists with advanced degrees and specific technical skills which are highly integrated. WEG is sensitive to the important environmental values of the region and the firm strives to be involved in projects that are supportive of these values. The firm meets these objectives by working closely with the client in defining the environmental components of a project early in the planning process, and then prescribing appropriate measures to protect the more sensitive areas. With its corporate office located in historic Williamsburg, it also has branch offices in Richmond, Herndon and Fredericksburg and a new field office located in Lakeland, Florida.

Social Time
Summer Time:
2007: This year's Summer Party was held at the fun and exciting Richmond Braves stadium - and included an awesome grill out and a great ball game. "Having the Summer Party at the ballfield is a great way to spend a fun Saturday getting to know your co-workers better," commented one employee. Stay tuned for pictures...
2006: The Summary Beach Party last year was HOT HOT HOT! A good time was had by all. Between the jet-ski, fish fry, live band, and frozen daiquiri machines, the party was rockin' all day long. People were in and out of the water, catching some much needed relief from the summer sun.

Holiday Time:
2006: The 2006 Holiday Party was held at the Great Wolfe Lodge again this year. Last year's event was entirely too memorable. This year's festivities included a pre-party golf tournament, an awesome Casino Night, Dancing, Company Superlatives, Raffle drawings for great prizes, and tasty food and beverage. Below are a few pictures for your viewing pleasure...

2005: The 2005 Company Holiday party was a huge hit! Employees from all offices converged on the newest attraction in Williamsburg: The Great Wolfe Lodge. This resort/water park was the perfect place for such an event. The evening was full of good food, good company and great dancing! A good time was had by all.

Sports:
WEG’s involvement in league sports is a popular past-time for employees. Whether it is softball, basketball or volleyball, you’ll always find a good crowd and a fun time.
Softball
For the 2007 Summer League, the Richmond crew has gotten together to join the local softball city league. Our captain this year is one of our Streams Team Engineers and the roster continues to grow and expand as new employees join the team. Stay tuned for more information as games are to be announced.
Volleyball
For the '06 - '07 season, WEG joined the Williamsburg Recreation Volleyball League. The co-ed team played on the “C” League and consisted of a wide variety of employees ranging from Senior Project Managers to operations staff with a varied level of volleyball experience. For the season, they wound up with a not-so-representative-of-the-actual-great-season-we-had record of 12-18... not so bad for it being the first time this group has played together! They're already looking forward to next season.
Basketball
2007-2008: The Team is Back! The ladies' team (Pogonias) is back in action this season. With a few new faces and several returning players, this year's team is sure to have fun. The season is just getting started, with the first game coming up on November 20th. Stay tuned for more updates in the near future!

2006-2007: This years' teams (that's right, we said TEAMS) had a great and FUN season playing in the local city league. The men's team made it all the way to the semi-finals game, where they were sadly defeated in a very exciting match. Their overall record, at 6-4, does not accurately represent their overall success of the season - some of those losses came down to a 2-point swing. Rest assured, they will be back next year!
Also, this year, we had the Ladies Team: The WEG Pogonias (fondly named for the Threatened and Endangered flower the Small Whorled Pogonia); while not as successful as the boy's team, the ladies proved that you don't always have to be the best of the best in order to have a great time. "I have never enjoyed playing with a group of girls so much in my life" commented one of the star point guards, "it's like playing with family!" The ladies are looking forward to another successful season in the 2007-2008 season.

New Horizons:
The Herndon (affectionately referred to as "NOVA") is expanding their space this Fall! The addition of a new section will allow for more space and a more visible "store front" location for the office. Currently, the team is working on renovation plans and hopes to have the process complete by the end of the year.
The Fredericksburg office has also expanded! The quickly growing staff of 15 now has a more spacious, organized arrangement where they can more easily develop their technical services.
In early July 2006, WEG’s Williamsburg office (Corporate) relocated to a brand new professional and entertainment development in town: New Town. It’s an exciting time for the Williamsburg employees who outgrew their current building 20-plus employees ago. The new building offers more space, new amenities and a wonderful environment to work in. The easy access to restaurants, shopping and entertainment is also a major highlight.
