With licenses of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop 9.3.1 and AutoCAD Map 3D 2010, Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) is capable of creating, editing, and delivering shapefiles and geodatabases to our clients in support of a wide range of development and improvement activities. These Geographic Information System (GIS) data are spatially referenced in desired coordinate systems and can have multiple attributes as well as photographs and other documentation attached to it. With the Spatial Analyst add-on to ArcGIS Desktop 9.3.1, WEG is able to perform complex analyses on all types of vector and raster data. WEG has seven CAD/GIS specialists on staff as well as many staff members who are trained in Aerial Photo Interpretation and have access to aerial photographs ranging in dates from the 1940’s to just months old. Staff members have years of education and training in analyzing spatial data for various feasibility and suitability studies.

Below are brief descriptions of general services WEG offers, followed by a complete list of our GIS-related capabilities and a few project showcases:
Desktop Feasibility Analysis |
WEG uses GIS to examine data and determine the feasibility of stream and wetland mitigation areas on a localized to statewide scale and has developed user-friendly, interactive GIS Models for all existing and proposed mitigation banks across several states and regions. WEG also uses GIS to determine the feasibility of Low Impact Development for new development, irrigation areas, and potential stream and wetland mitigation. |
GIS Site Search and Gap Analysis |
WEG staff utilizes GIS to determine where the greatest need is for conservation banks in a specific geographic location. Localized site searches can be performed for specific basins based on the client’s needs. |
Shapefile, Personal Geodatabase, and SDSFIE Geodatabase Creation |
WEG can create GIS data for any features that can be represented spatially. This data includes large, multiple square-mile wetland delineations with associated National Wetland Inventory (NWI) Cowardin classification and system codes, acreage, and photographic reference, as well as inventoried proposed stream mitigation projects throughout entire watersheds. WEG can also produce SDSFIE geodatabase files for the DOD including FGDC compliant metadata. |
Desktop Alternatives Analysis |
WEG staff utilizes GIS to inventory existing conditions, ecological and cultural resources data along roadway and utility design corridors and performs an alternatives analysis of alignments to determine potential impacts and the least environmental damaging practicable alternatives. |
