Description

Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) provides comprehensive permit support tailored to meet the individual needs of our clients.  We understand that the level of permitting required for a project depends upon the type of project and the environmental constraints present at the site.  WEG's approach involves matching our clients' needs with a practical and realistic permitting scenario.  WEG has key personnel that have worked in the regulatory arena and, therefore, have an intimate knowledge of what it takes to obtain a permit.

Our primary focus is to meet our clients' needs in a timely, cost-effective manner.  To achieve this, we continue to develop practical solutions to the often-complex problems associated with acquiring permits from federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

Below are brief descriptions of some of the specific services WEG offers, followed by a complete list of our regulatory capabilities and a few project showcases.

Waters of the United States: Wetland Identification & Classification

WEG ecologists have conducted hundreds of studies involving the assessment and delineation of wetlands on thousands of acres of land in Virginia and across the mid-Atlantic states.  Our ecologists are trained to identify and assess wetlands and other waters that are subject to jurisdiction under federal, state, and/or local regulation.

National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)

WEG staff are experienced in the preparation of various levels of environmental documents to meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  We understand that the assessment of alternatives, public participation, and documentation of potential impacts to natural, cultural, social, and economic resources is paramount to managing a federally funded project.  Our staff have the expertise to take a large project from public scoping to the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) as well as efficiently process a Categorical Exclusion (CE).

Environmental Constraints Analysis

WEG's staff of ecologists and planners are experienced in performing on-site surveys that identify and map environmentally sensitive resources, many of which are regulated areas, such as waters of the United States, including wetlands; habitat for threatened and endangered species; steep slopes; and resource protection areas.

Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA)

WEG's environmental professional have successfully completed the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standards course and have over 30 years of combined experience conducting ESAs. Environmental professionals include engineers, geologists, and hydrogeologists skilled in determining the presence or potential for release of hazardous substances.  The assessment includes in-depth, on-site inspection of the property, interviews, and comprehensive research of existing records.

Wetland Mitigation and Mitigation Banking

WEG has been involved in all aspects of compensatory wetland mitigation from on-site construction to complete wetland bank authorization.  Our services include site feasibility studies, water budget analysis, regulatory coordination, wetland bank authorization, wetland design and construction documents, construction coordination, and post-construction monitoring and reporting.

Local Administered Projects
WEG can assist localities and not-for-profit groups manage the environmental requirements of federally-funded grants from various agencies including the Federal Highway Administration, Department of Agricultura Rural Development, and Housing and Urban Development.  Our knowledge of the federal process will save time and resources for the grant recipient as they move through the NEPA nad water quality permitting phases.
Local, State, and Federal Permit Support WEG offers full-service regulatory support for all regulated activities associated with non-tidal and tidal wetlands, stream channel, submerged lands, and Chesapeake Bay preservation areas.  Our regulatory specialists have worked within the agencies, understand the personalities involved, and are well versed in permit specific issue resolution, including threatened and endangered species coordination, riparian preservation area coordination, and easement determination.
