Powhite Parkway Improvements
Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) provided environmental, water resource engineering, regulatory permitting, and construction management services to HNTB and the RMA as part of the Powhite Parkway Improvement project located in the City of Richmond, Virginia. More specifically, WEG completed routine site inspections, provided technical assistance during construction activities, and compiled monitoring reports based on local, state, and federal permit conditions.
Construction activities required an Individual Permit from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). Regulatory assistance was also provided to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. As part of the project, approximately 1,200 linear feet of Powhite Creek, a perennial tributary that flows directly into the James River, was completed. Stream restoration activities were based on Natural Stream Channel Design principles. WEG also established a sediment monitoring program to better ensure that the project did not adversely affect sensitive streams/wetlands downstream of construction activities.
WEG is currently providing regulatory assistance, construction monitoring and reporting, and stream restoration/relocation monitoring and reporting activities associated with the project.
