Wetland Remediation
Williamsburg
Environmental Group (WEG) provided environmental planning, monitoring
and reporting services to remediate the accidental release of sediment
into a non-tidal wetland system of Deerlick Branch, located in Henrico
County .
WEG personnel
provided regulatory support, meeting with Federal, State, and Local
environmental agencies to develop a restoration plan to remove accumulated
sediments from the wetland and to revegetate the area. By the use
of hoses and high pressure water, sediment was re-suspended and
washed to holding cells where it was pumped out of the wetland area,
to upland holding ponds, where is was properly disposed of. WEG
personnel were on site continuously during the initial phases of
the cleanup operation, monitoring the operation as well as overseeing
water quality monitoring at two-hour intervals. Monitoring reports
with photo documentation were submitted to agency personnel weekly
during the 55-week restoration process. Following the successful
removal of accumulated sediments, the wetland area was re-vegetated
utilizing an approved wetland seed mix.
WEG staff
includes wetland professionals, soil scientists, regulatory specialists,
engineers and landscape architects, in addition to our construction
administration team. This group of environmental professionals has
extensive experience in wetland restoration and remediation, from
planning and permitting to construction and oversight of the project.
