Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) was selected by the City of Newport News, Virginia to provide professional environmental, engineering and landscape architectural design services for the development of the Conceptual Park Plan for the Denbigh Boulevard Park located in the County of York, Virginia. Denbigh Boulevard Park is a joint venture with participation from both the City of Newport News, Virginia the County of York, Virginia.

WEG’s initial task for this project included performing a detailed wetland delineation of the 225 acre property, and subsequently obtaining confirmation of the wetlands from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers prior to the commencement of the development of the Conceptual Park Plan. The overall project goal was to avoid proposed impacts to the confirmed wetlands on-site.
WEG and representatives from the Newport News Parks & Recreation Department and County of York Parks and Recreation Department, developed the proposed design program which addressed the active and passive park and recreational facility needs of both localities. In addition, restrooms, a maintenance facility, and a proposed recreation center were included in the proposed design program. Based upon the established design program, WEG developed three (3) conceptual park plan alternatives for review and approval by Newport News and the County of York.
Design components and ideas from the three (3) conceptual park plan alternatives were merged and a final Conceptual Park Plan and associated construction cost opinions were developed by WEG to assist the two localities in pursuing additional funding for the final design and construction of Denbigh Boulevard Park. In addition, WEG prepared a multitude of color graphics of the final Conceptual Park Plan for public presentation purposes and to solicit support regarding the proposed joint venture development of Denbigh Boulevard Park.
