New Town Development
Landstown to West LandingTransmission Line
New Town is an approximately 375-acre parcel ideally located between Colonial Williamsburg and Route 199 in Williamsburg, Virginia. It is designed to be the new town center of Williamsburg, featuring a “new urban” design that incorporates commercial and residential developments that are pedestrian oriented for life, work and play. WEG was involved with the design of New Town from the time of zoning with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, preliminary stormwater design, environmental feasibility, threatened and endangered species surveys, historic resources coordination, stream assessment, wetland delineation and permitting. Nationwide and Individual Permits were obtained early on in the project design to enable New Town to begin development of Phase I of the project. Once the final Individual Permit Application was submitted WEG worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR), US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and James City County on stormwater design, irrigation requirements, mitigation, RPA coordination, and permit compliance and monitoring. Compensation for impacts to wetlands will result in the on-site preservation of 99% of the wetlands with upland buffers and threatened and endangered species as well as wetland enhancement and restoration of the Powhatan Watershed.
