Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) provided stream bank stabilization/ restoration planning and design and golf course consulting services to the Greenbrier Sporting Club in White Sulphur Springs , West Virginia . The project included over 2.5 miles of stream habitat and biological assessments, as well as over 4,000 linear feet of stream bank stabilization and trout habitat improvements. Instream habitat structures included cross vanes, j- hooks, lunker structures, and boulder clusters with bioengineering practices implemented along the streambank. A cooperative effort was set forth among WEG, The Greenbrier Sporting Club, and the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (WVDNR) to achieve project objectives. WEG completed a biological index for macroinvertebrates, Rosgen classification, sediment transport calculations, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling in support of the project. Restoration of degraded riparian buffers using native plant materials that augment streambank stability and wildlife habitat are also proposed as part of the design plans. WEG is also completing a fish survey with WVDNR staff using Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) protocols as part of the monitoring program.
