The Massaponax Mitigation Bank (Bank) is situated on 266.20 acres along Massaponax Creek in Spotsylvania County , Virginia . WEG worked with the client to acquire a Special Use Permit (SUP) as part of the initial phase of the Bank. The SUP allowed wetland mitigation activities to occur with a previously Commercial zoned parcel. WEG completed all facets of the banking process including site feasibility, preliminary design, regulatory and permitting, detailed construction documents and local, state, and federal coordination.

Massaponax Mitigation BankThe majority of the site is situated within the 100-year floodplain of Massaponax Creek, which is currently vegetated in a predominance of immature Virginia pine due to historic mining activities. The master plan includes approximately 66 acres of wetland restoration/creation, 11 acres of riparian corridor restoration, and 81 acres of wetland preservation. The Bank also includes approximately 4,400 linear feet of stream and buffer restoration.

The Bank is located approximately three miles upstream of its confluence with the Rappahannock River . The Bank service includes the primary hydrologic unit 02080104 and adjacent unit 02080103. This area includes all or portions of Fauquier, Rappahannock, Madison , Greene, Culpeper, Stafford, Orange , Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, Westmoreland, Essex, Richmond , Lancaster and Middlesex counties in Virginia .
