Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG) teamed with BHE Environmental to provide environmental and regulatory support for a 136-mile fiber optic cable installation project connecting Arlington, Virginia to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This project is a joint venture between Velocita (formerly PF.Net) and AT&T. Once completed, the line will provide service to all major U.S. cities on the Atlantic Coast from Florida to New York.

Velocita Fiber Optic Line WEG took the lead on wetland identification, delineation, and classification within the project boundaries. Our project team was assembled from certified wetland ecologists with over a decade of experience in the Mid-Atlantic region. WEG supported the wetland resource inventory by providing survey location using Trimble Pro-XR GPS technology. Permitting support was provided by regulatory specialists knowledgeable in all aspects of local, state, and federal permitting issues, including wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and cultural resources.

Currently, WEG is coordinating with BHE on the next leg of the project – a continuation of the fiber optic installation from Philadelphia to Brooklyn. In addition, WEG is providing technical support to CommTech, the utility construction firm on the project, by reviewing erosion and sedimentation control plans for compliance with local ordinances.
